UGC NET December 2026 Eligibility Criteria
- Master’s Degree Candidates : Passed or appearing in the final year of Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in Humanities, Social Sciences, Computer Applications, Electronic Science, Environmental Sciences, etc., with at least 55% aggregate marks (50% marks for SC / ST / OBC-NCL / PwD / Third Gender).
- 4-Year Bachelor’s Degree Candidates : Candidates pursuing or having completed a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s Degree programme with a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate (or equivalent grade) are also eligible to apply for JRF and Ph.D. admission (5% relaxation for reserved categories).
- Three Application Categories : (1) Award of JRF and appointment as Assistant Professor, (2) Appointment as Assistant Professor and admission to Ph.D., (3) Admission to Ph.D. only.

Selection Process
- Computer Based Test (CBT) : Two papers conducted in 3 hour shift without any break.
- Minimum Qualifying Marks : General / Unreserved / General-EWS candidates must obtain at least 40% aggregate marks across both papers; reserved categories (OBC-NCL, SC, ST, PwD, Third Gender) must secure at least 35% aggregate marks.
- Top 6% Qualified for Assistant Professor : As per UGC policy, the number of candidates to be declared qualified for Assistant Professor eligibility equals 6% of the candidates who appeared in both papers.
- JRF Merit Allocation : Out of candidates qualifying for Assistant Professor, a separate merit list is prepared for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) based on available fellowship slots.

How to Apply for NTA UGC NET December 2026 Online Form
- Visit the official NTA UGC NET portal at ugcnet.nta.ac.in.
- Click on “New Candidate Registration” for the UGC NET December 2026 Cycle.
- Complete the online registration using valid identification to generate your Application Number and Password.
- Log in and fill in personal details, educational qualifications (Master’s or 4-Year Bachelor’s details), and select your applied category (JRF & Assistant Professor / Assistant Professor & Ph.D. / Ph.D. only).
- Choose your Subject from the list of 85 subjects and select four preferred examination cities in order of priority.
- Upload scanned passport-size photograph (10 KB to 200 KB) and signature in black ink (4 KB to 30 KB) as per NTA guidelines.
- Pay the examination fee online via Debit Card, Credit Card, Net Banking, or UPI gateway before the cutoff date.
- Review all entries carefully, submit the final application on or before 28 October 2026, and download/print the Confirmation Page for future reference.
