11,403 clerk posts are open — and any graduate can apply

If you have a graduation degree and want a steady bank job, this is one of the biggest openings of the year. The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) — the body that hires for most public-sector banks — has invited applications for 11,403 clerk posts, now officially called Customer Service Associate (CSA).

The online form is open from 1 August 2026 and shuts on 21 August 2026. That leaves only a short window, so it makes sense to apply early rather than on the last day.

Who can apply

  • Education: A Bachelor’s degree in any subject from a recognised university.
  • Age: Between 20 and 28 years as on 1 August 2026. Reserved categories (SC, ST, OBC, PwBD and ex-servicemen) get the usual age relaxation on top of this.
  • Language: Because clerk selection is done state by state, you must be able to read, write and speak the official language of the state you choose.

Fee: ₹850 for General, OBC and EWS candidates; ₹175 for SC, ST, PwBD and ex-servicemen.

The exam, step by step

There are two stages and no interview:

  1. Prelims (expected October 2026): a short objective test of English, numerical ability and reasoning. This is only a screening round.
  2. Main exam (expected December 2026): a longer objective test. Your marks here decide the final selection, state-wise.

Exact dates come on your admit card, so keep checking the IBPS website after you apply.

What a bank clerk actually earns

This is the part most candidates want to know. A bank clerk’s basic pay starts at about ₹24,050 and grows with each year of service. Basic pay is only the base — the real salary is much more once allowances are added:

  • Dearness Allowance (DA): a rising amount that tracks inflation, currently around 27.83% for bank employees.
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA): higher in big cities, lower in smaller towns.
  • Special allowance and transport allowance on top.

Put together, a new clerk’s gross pay works out to roughly ₹40,000 to ₹46,000 a month, depending on the city — the amount that actually lands in the account is a little lower after NPS and other deductions. Over the years, with DA growth and increments, the pay keeps climbing.

What to do next

  1. Keep your degree certificate, a passport photo, signature and ID ready in the right file size.
  2. Register on the IBPS website, fill the form and pay the fee before 21 August 2026.
  3. Note down your registration number and password safely.
  4. Start light preparation for the October prelims — English, maths and reasoning — while you wait for your admit card.

A government-bank clerk job brings a stable salary, regular increments and long-term security. With 11,403 posts open, this is a genuine chance — but the door closes on 21 August, so do not leave it for the last minute.
