The school service commission (SSC) will resume document verification for secondary-level teacher job aspirants on July 30, but there is still no clarity on when interviews will be conducted to shortlist candidates.
The verification process, involving physical scrutiny of testimonials, marksheets and caste certificates uploaded during the online application process, will be held at the SSC’s five regional offices.
The Supreme Court had directed last year that the teachers must be appointed by August 31 this year.
The job aspirants have decided to hit the streets on August 2 protesting the delay.
The commission is yet to schedule interviews as it awaits the state government’s decision on whether OBC reservation in the ongoing recruitment process will remain at 17% or be reduced to 7%, sources said.
“They should have first clarified the OBC reservation with the state. What’s the point of document verification if interviews cannot be held?,” said job aspirant Mehboob Mandal.
Mandal is among the 15,403 sacked but untainted teachers who took a fresh selection test last September to retain their jobs.
These teachers will continue to get salaries till August 31.
After the Supreme Court scrapped the appointments of 17,209 teachers in government-aided secondary and higher secondary schools on April 3, 2025, calling the 2016 recruitment process “tainted”, fresh recruitment tests were held in September 2025.
More than 35,000 teachers — about 23,000 for secondary schools and 12,000 for higher secondary schools — must be recruited by August 31.
The SSC said in a July 23 notice that document verification for successful candidates in the 2025 SLST for Classes IX and X in English, physical science and life science will begin on July 30 at the respective regional commission offices. Intimation letters can be downloaded from the commission’s website.
The verification for the remaining nine subjects was done before the Assembly elections.
Rakesh Alam, one of the 15,403 untainted but sacked teachers, said it seems that the deadline would be missed again. The earlier deadline was December 31, 2025.
“The BJP government did nothing on recruitment after taking office in May until it resumed document verification. The 3,500 candidates recommended for HS posts before the elections are yet to get appointment letters, interviews for the remaining posts are pending. Document verification has started only for secondary posts,” Alam said.
